Nicosia: Egyptian Ambassador to Cyprus Mohamed Zaazou has inaugurated an art exhibition organized by the Egyptian Embassy in Nicosia. Titled "Road to Ithaca," the exhibition features photographs depicting the experiences and memories of Greek Cypriots and Cypriots of Egyptian descent who lived in Egypt from the 1920s to the 1970s.According to State Information Service Egypt, the photographs are inspired by the Ithaca poem by renowned Greek poet Constantine Cavafy, who was born in 1863 and spent much of his life in Egypt. The poem discusses the joy and memories one gains throughout life's journey.During the opening ceremony, Ambassador Zaazou emphasized that this event is part of the embassy's efforts to highlight the historical and cultural ties between Egypt and Cyprus. It aims to promote mutual understanding between both countries' peoples through art and shared memories. The event reflects the goals and principles of the 'Reviving Roots-Nostos' initiative, launched by Egypt in 2018 in collaboration wi th Cyprus and Greece, Zaazou stated. He added that the initiative marks the shared history and human experiences of the Greek and Cypriot communities who once lived in Egypt, aiming to strengthen the connection between new generations of those communities and their ancestral homeland.
