Bangkok:Effective diplomacy is a key driver in converting international engagement into economic benefits for the nation, as highlighted by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Nader Zaki. This statement was made during a discussion of the recent visit by Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, to Thailand. Abdelatty participated in the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in Bangkok, acting under the directive of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the purpose of Abdelatty's visit was to share Egypt's perspective on reforming the international development finance system and to enhance collaboration with global financial institutions. Ambassador Zaki emphasized that Egypt's diplomatic initiatives are not just about extending geographical influence but are central to defining the country's global role. The outreach from Africa to Asia signifies Egypt's efforts to anticipate global changes and strategically prepare for the future.
During the Bangkok meetings, Abdelatty, representing Egypt as governor at the World Bank, engaged in numerous high-level discussions with international finance and development leaders, along with various ministers. These discussions aimed to boost development financing and attract investments to support national projects and initiatives, focusing on improving living standards, promoting financial inclusion, and advancing economic empowerment in Egypt.
The talks were set against the backdrop of Egypt's economic resilience amid global economic challenges, which are particularly pressing for developing nations. Abdelatty outlined the economic and structural reforms Egypt has undertaken to enhance financial and monetary stability and to foster a more investment-friendly climate. He also highlighted the government's efforts to empower the private sector, aiming to increase its participation in economic activities through initial public offerings and restructuring state-owned enterprises. Notably, the private sector contributed 66% of total investments in the first quarter of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. Abdelatty's visit marked the first by an Egyptian foreign minister to Thailand in three decades.
