Cairo: Egypt won on Sunday, August 30, 2026, the silver medal in the men's team event at the 2026 UIPM Pentathlon World Championships that are underway in the Chinese city of Guiyang from Aug. 23 to 31.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Egyptian pentathletes Moataz Mohamed, Mohannad Shaaban, and Mohamed El-Ashkar finished second with 4,687 points, just behind Russia, who claimed gold with 4,693 points. France took bronze with 4,482 points.

Moataz Mohamed also finished fourth in the men's individual final with 1,571 points, five points behind the bronze medalist. Mohannad Shaaban came seventh with 1,560 points, while Mohamed El-Ashkar finished 11th with 1,556 points.

Egypt opened its campaign at the championships by winning bronze in the women's relay. The Egyptian pair of Jana Attia and Zeina Amer finished third with 1,302 points.

Egyptian pentathletes also delivered notable performances in the obstacle race, with Zeina Amer breaking the world record before world champion Farida Khalil broke it again. In the men's event, Mohamed El-Ashkar also set a new championship world record.

The Egyptian delegation in China is led by Shady Abdel Aziz, treasurer of the Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation. The team includes technical adviser and federation sports director Yasser Hefny, head coach Abdelrahman Issa, technical directors Ibrahim Sokar and Mohamed Abu Hashem, fencing technical director Mohamed Abu Hashem, shooting technical director Karim Wagih, obstacle technical director Ahmed Yehia, nutrition specialist Mohamed Khater, physiotherapist Mohamed Khaled, and delegation administrator Samir Farouk.

Egypt is participating in the championships with ten pentathletes: Ahmed El-Gendy, Moataz Wael, Mohamed Hossam, Mohamed Hatem, Mohannad Shaaban, Seif Wael, Farida Abu Hashem, Jana El-Gendy, Jana Attia, and Zeina Amer.
