Cairo: The Egyptian presidency welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the US and Iran by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. It stressed the great importance of this step in reducing tensions, preventing further cycles of escalation in the region, and restoring security and stability in the Middle East.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the presidency expressed its deep appreciation for the leadership and wisdom of the US president and his commitment to achieving peace and resolving disputes through peaceful means, as well as for his sincere efforts to reach a mutually acceptable text for the Memorandum of Understanding. It also commended Iran's willingness to engage positively through the signing of the memorandum.
Egypt praised the full coordination carried out with regional partners to achieve this satisfactory outcome and expressed appreciation for the tireless efforts made by Pakistan, Qatar, and the other members of the quartet, namely Saudi Arabia and Turkey, in reaching the aforementioned memorandum.
Egypt expressed its hope that this step would represent a major turning point toward a new phase of de-escalation, confidence-building, and joint cooperation, and that the memorandum would be fully implemented, paving the way for a final and sustainable agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties and supports efforts aimed at achieving lasting security and stability in the region.
Egypt also expressed hope that this latest development, linked to ending the war with Iran, would help create a favorable environment for addressing various regional conflicts, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, which remains at the core of the conflict in the Middle East. Egypt stressed that a decisive and final settlement of the Palestinian cause is one of the fundamental pillars for achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
Egypt reiterated its appreciation for President Trump's intensive and valued efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Egypt also expressed hope that the recently concluded Memorandum of Understanding would lead to a complete cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon, Israel's withdrawal from Lebanese territory, and respect for Lebanon's unity and territorial integrity.
Furthermore, Egypt expressed hope that the forthcoming technical talks between the US and Iranian sides would succeed in enhancing prospects for reaching more comprehensive and sustainable understandings that would contribute to consolidating regional stability and reducing tensions. Egypt renewed its commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at strengthening regional security and stability and resolving conflicts through peaceful means in accordance with the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
