Cairo:Egypt has taken a significant step forward in its electric vehicle industry with the launch of a locally produced electric car, featuring 45% domestic components. This milestone was announced by Mahmoud Esmat, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Esmat made the announcement during a press conference celebrating the production of the first vehicle. He praised the efforts of the state-owned El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company and emphasized the importance of sustaining production, expanding local manufacturing, and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian-made vehicles.
The minister revealed that approximately EGP 900 million has been invested in reviving El Nasr Automotive, which includes the establishment of a paint shop and the preparation of production facilities. He also highlighted the country's advancements in fast-charging technology, specifically mentioning direct-current (DC) charging and 800-volt systems, which could potentially reduce charging times to just five to ten minutes.
