Cairo:Egypt is set to strengthen its industrial cooperation with Côte d'Ivoire, as announced by Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem. The initiative aims to leverage the capabilities of both nations to achieve mutual economic benefits, aligning with Egypt's Industrial Strategy 2030 that emphasizes industrial integration with African countries.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Hashem discussed these plans during a meeting with Côte d'Ivoire's Ambassador to Egypt, Albert G. Douly. The meeting focused on enhancing industrial cooperation and increasing joint investments in sectors of mutual interest, as per the governmental strategies of both countries.
Assistant Minister for International Cooperation Ahmed Maghawry and Supervisor of the Industry Minister's Technical Office Ahmed Osama were also in attendance. Hashem highlighted the importance of viable industrial projects in accelerating bilateral cooperation and addressing financial and logistical challenges.
The discussions included examining sectors covered by both countries' strategies to identify potential projects that could be implemented soon, based on available resources and market needs. The absence of an Egyptian bank in Côte d'Ivoire and the lack of a bilateral maritime trade agreement were noted as challenges facing joint industrial investments.
Ambassador Douly reaffirmed Côte d'Ivoire's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Egypt and activating bilateral agreements from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit in 2019. He emphasized the Ivorian government's interest in attracting Egyptian industrial investment, particularly in manufacturing sectors.
Côte d'Ivoire's five-year economic development plan through 2030 identifies priority industrial sectors for private sector involvement, offering Egyptian companies opportunities for direct investment. The plan includes sectors such as tire manufacturing, palm oil processing, and agro-industries, aiming to support broader economic and industrial cooperation.
