Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati spoke by phone on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohy Eldin Salem to discuss the crisis in Sudan and efforts to restore stability.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallaf stated that Abdel-Aati strongly condemned the attack on Khartoum International Airport, describing it as a serious violation of international law and humanitarian rules. Abdel-Aati emphasized Egypt’s rejection of targeting civilian facilities or infrastructure, warning that such actions exacerbate the crisis and prolong the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The Egyptian minister reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan’s security, stability, territorial unity, and national institutions. He highlighted the importance of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, avoiding interference, and halting escalation. Furthermore, he urged a Sudanese-led political process that secures a comprehensive settlement and meets the people’s aspirations for peace and development.

Abdel-Aati also mentioned Egypt’s ongoing contacts with regional and international partners, including the United States and the International Quartet, to support calm and ease humanitarian suffering.

Sudan’s Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for Egypt’s supportive role and its efforts at both regional and international levels to promote de-escalation and end the crisis, stressing Sudan’s commitment to continued consultation and coordination with Egypt.
