Egypt Stresses Importance of Gulf Security to Its National Stability

Tunis:The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, emphasized that the security of Arab Gulf states is a crucial aspect of Egypt's national security. This statement was made during a meeting with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi on the sidelines of the autumn meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group in Thailand.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty highlighted the deep-rooted fraternal and historic relations between Egypt and the GCC member states. The meeting focused on discussing recent regional developments and efforts to manage current tensions. Both Abdelatty and Albudaiwi condemned the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia, expressing solidarity and support for Saudi Arabia's security and stability.

Both parties emphasized the importance of enhancing joint Arab action and improving coordination to address challenges affecting regional security. They reaffirmed the need to respect states' sovereignty and prioritize diplomatic solutions to regional crises. The discussions also included plans for the second Egyptian-Gulf Trade and Investment Forum in El Alamein, aimed at boosting economic relations and encouraging mutual investment, especially in the energy sector.

The forum is anticipated to support trade flows, integrate supply chains, and expand economic cooperation between Egypt and GCC states. Additionally, both sides agreed to continue strengthening political consultation mechanisms in line with a memorandum of understanding signed in February 2022 and a joint action plan for 2024-2028, to promote regular consultations on issues of mutual interest.
