Cairo: The Ministry of Youth and Sports announced on Friday, 27/2/2026, that an agreement was signed between the African Union (AU) and the Egyptian government to host the 14th African Games in Cairo next year. The deal was signed by Egypt's Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU Obaida El Dandarawy and AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development Minata Samate Cessouma.According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil stated that Egypt's selection as the host of the upcoming African Games reflects the continent's confidence in the Egyptian government's capabilities, which are bolstered by support from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli for his unwavering support and continuous efforts in finalizing the agreement. Nabil also commended the high-level institutional coordination among relevant state bodies, particularly highlighting the ministries of foreign affairs and defense.Nabil emphasized that the integrated national efforts demonstrate Egypt's preparedness to host a significant continental event, underscoring its leading role in Africa.
