Egypt Reaffirms Support to Qatar Amid Regional Tensions

Doha: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Doha. The meeting marked the beginning of a diplomatic tour of several Arab countries, upon the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, to reaffirm Egypt's full support and solidarity with the Gulf states in the face of unjustified aggressions against them.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty delivered a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Egypt's full support to Qatar, expressing solidarity during this critical time in light of the repeated Iranian aggressions. He further expressed profound appreciation for the deep historical and brotherly ties between the two nations and peoples.

Meanwhile, the Qatari Emir expressed his sincere gratitude for Egypt's steadfast stance in supporting Qatar, emphasizing Egypt's pivotal role in preserving regional stability and defending Arab national security. Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf said that during the meeting, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's firm condemnation of the Iranian aggressions targeting Qatar.

Abdelatty emphasized that these attacks, which aim to undermine the sovereignty, national security and well-being of the Qatari people, represent a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law and the principles of the UN Charter. He stressed that the security of Qatar and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries is inseparable from Egypt's national security and the security of the Arab world.

The meeting also addressed the current situation in the region and the serious military escalation underway. Both parties stressed the importance of de-escalation and ending the war, advocating for a diplomatic approach and dialogue to prevent the conflict from spreading and to avoid plunging the region into widespread chaos.
