Cairo: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdel Aziz Konsowa and President of the African University Sports Federation (FASU) Ashraf Sobhi attended a press conference organized by the Ministry of Higher Education in cooperation with FASU and the Egyptian Universities Sports Federation. The event was held to announce Egypt's preparations for hosting the 12th African University Games, scheduled from August 9 to 16.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the tournament will be jointly organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Egyptian Universities Sports Federation under the umbrella of FASU. In his speech, Konsowa expressed gratitude to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for his support of higher education, university sports, and youth empowerment. Konsowa emphasized that this support has fortified Egypt's readiness to host the continental event.
Konsowa highlighted that the championship underscores Egypt's leading role in Africa and its commitment to soft-power diplomacy. He noted that the event serves as a platform for strengthening ties among African universities and fostering interaction among the continent's youth. Konsowa assured that Egypt is mobilizing all resources to ensure the tournament is organized successfully and in accordance with international standards. He also mentioned that the event would promote cultural exchange and sustainable partnerships across Africa.
President of the International University Sports Federation Leonz Eder commented that university games provide an important venue for exchanging cultures, ideas, and expertise. He added that the games showcase Africa's sporting excellence and development potential.
