Egypt Prepares to End Daylight Saving Time with Clock Adjustment

Cairo:Egypt is preparing to return to winter time in the final days of October, with clocks set back by 60 minutes as daylight saving time comes to an end.

According to State Information Service Egypt, under the current system, winter time begins at the end of October, with the clock change taking place at midnight on the last Thursday of the month.

The shift provides people with an extra hour according to local time, though it may require attention to avoid confusion over appointments, travel plans, and other commitments. Residents are advised to check their clocks and electronic devices around the time of the change, particularly if they have flights, work schedules, or other time-sensitive plans.

Egypt's daylight saving time system is designed to make better use of daylight by moving clocks forward during the summer months, thereby reducing the need for artificial lighting during evening hours and potentially lowering energy consumption. While daylight saving time is used in many countries, its adoption varies by region. The practice gained wider adoption during the 20th century as countries sought ways to better utilize daylight and conserve energy. However, its effectiveness remains a topic of debate as energy use and daily routines have evolved.
