Cairo: Ministers of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny and Education Minister Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Latif have signed a protocol to transfer schools constructed by the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) to the Ministry of Education, as announced in a Cabinet statement on June 30, 2025. This agreement marks a significant step towards integrating the German education model into Egypt's school system, beginning with a pilot school in Sixth of October City.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the schools situated in newly developed urban areas will be the focus, with the initial implementation of the German education model akin to the Nile International Certificate system. Selection of additional schools for this initiative will depend on forthcoming agreements between the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Education.
El-Sherbiny emphasized that this protocol signifies a crucial alignment between urban planning and the nation's strategy for educational development. The aim is to manage these schools under the Ministry of Education's modern operational framework, drawing inspiration from the successful models of Nile and Japanese schools. He assured full governmental support through all stages of implementation and stated that the progress would be closely monitored.
Furthermore, El-Sherbiny highlighted existing vocational schools operated by the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, which prepare students for careers in water and sanitation networks. He noted the increasing demand from the private sector for such graduates, stressing the importance of expanding these models and incorporating foreign-language instruction to satisfy both domestic and international market needs.
Abdel Latif announced that the German-Egyptian school model would commence in the upcoming academic year. He also mentioned ongoing discussions with the French Embassy to establish French-model schools, aimed at diversifying international educational options in Egypt. The minister underscored efforts to modernize technical education, citing the operation of 90 applied technology schools in Egypt. He stated that the ministry is actively seeking international cooperation to enhance standards and attract partners from Germany, Italy, and Japan, with the goal of launching more schools offering internationally accredited programs.
