Egypt Intensifies Efforts for Release of Sailors Detained in Iran

Cairo: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates is actively monitoring the situation involving Egyptian nationals aboard a maritime vessel detained by Iranian authorities, fulfilling its duty to safeguard Egyptians overseas.

According to State Information Service Egypt, following reports about an Egyptian citizen on the detained vessel, Minister Badr Abdelatty instructed the consular affairs sector to promptly address the situation, ensuring the safety of all individuals involved. Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, Haddad el Gohary, confirmed that Egypt's Interests Section in Tehran has been in contact with Iranian authorities. It has been verified that four Egyptian sailors are aboard the vessel, Reem Al-Khaleej, currently stationed at Bandar Abbas port in southern Iran near Qeshm Island.

El Gohary further stated that an Egyptian official has been sent to the port to offer consular and legal assistance, while ongoing efforts are focused on securing the sailors' release and facilitating their safe return to Egypt.
