Egypt, France Conduct Political Consultations on African Affairs


Cairo: Egypt and France held a new round of political consultations on African affairs, chaired by Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Mohamed Karim Sherif and French Foreign Ministry Director of African and Indian Ocean Affairs Emmanuelle Blatmann. The meeting was attended by senior officials from both countries, including French Ambassador in Cairo €š¬…¡¬°ric Chevallier.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions focused on the latest developments in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel, Central and West Africa, Sudan, the Great Lakes region, and Nile Basin countries. Key topics included water-related issues and areas of joint cooperation. Mohamed Karim Sherif emphasized Egypt’s commitment to supporting African-led solutions and development efforts, particularly in collaboration with Nile Basin countries to ensure water security in accordance with international law.



Additionally, the talks addressed the situation in Sudan, with Egypt reiterating its support for the country’s unity, sovereignty, and national institutions. Economic cooperation and coordination on African issues, including the security and stability of the Red Sea, were also discussed. Both countries agreed to continue consultations on regional developments.
