Egypt Extends Invitation to Germany for Gaza Reconstruction Summit in Cairo

Cairo: Egypt is inviting Germany to join an upcoming international conference in Cairo focused on early recovery and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip. The anticipated conference will be part of efforts to rally international support for a ceasefire and humanitarian relief, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said on Sunday.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty made the announcement during a joint press conference with Germany's Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali-Radovan and Egypt's Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat. Cairo is seeking German participation alongside the European Union, Japan, Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the United Nations, and the World Bank.

The conference is being organised in line with the Arab-Islamic plan adopted at the Cairo Peace Summit in March. Minister Abdelatty emphasized that Germany, given its close ties with Israel, could play a key role in advancing ceasefire efforts and mobilizing financial support for reconstruction.

'We hope Germany will take part in this effort and help push forward a ceasefire that would stop the bloodshed and allow urgent humanitarian and medical aid into Gaza,' he said.

Minister Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt's collaboration with Qatar and the United States in mediating a truce and underlined Cairo's active role in ongoing negotiations.

The Egyptian foreign minister discussed broader regional concerns with the German delegation, including the conflicts in Libya, Sudan, the Horn of Africa, and the Sahel. He reiterated Egypt's commitment to regional stability and stressed the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

He called on international donors, including Germany, to support post-war recovery in Gaza, aiming to provide hope to Palestinian civilians facing severe hardships under Israeli bombardment.
