Cairo: Egypt exported 3,516 food consignments weighing a total of 172,000 tons during the week from August 22 to 28, according to the National Food Safety Authority.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the exports were shipped by 1,300 companies and covered around 700 food products, including vegetables and tubers, fruits, flour and grain products, preserved vegetable and fruit preparations, and various food products. In its 32nd weekly report for 2026, the authority detailed that Egypt exported 36,000 tons of 40 vegetable products during the week.

Sweet potatoes topped the list of exported vegetables at 14,000 tons, followed by onions at 7,000 tons and potatoes at 6,000 tons. Egypt also exported 25,000 tons of 30 fruit products. Strawberries led fruit exports at 8,000 tons, followed by mangoes at 7,000 tons and citrus fruits at 5,000 tons.

Sudan topped the list of destinations for Egyptian food exports during the week, followed by C´te d'Ivoire, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia, among a total of 156 importing countries. Safaga Port ranked first in the number of food export consignments, handling 645 shipments, followed by Alexandria Port with 540 and Damietta Port with 514.

Meanwhile, Egypt received 1,546 food consignments totaling around 218,000 tons during the same period. The imports were brought in by 766 companies and included wheat, various oils, broad beans, and soybeans. Russia was the leading source of food imports to Egypt, followed by Indonesia, Australia, the United States, and Italy, among 80 countries that exported food products to the Egyptian market.

Alexandria Port ranked first for incoming food consignments with 521 shipments, followed by Cairo International Airport with 321 and Damietta Port with 194.
