Egypt Condemns Somaliland’s Embassy Opening in Al-Quds

Cairo: Egypt strongly condemned on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the opening by Somaliland, a region in northwestern Somalia, of a purported diplomatic mission in Al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem), describing the move as a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions, as well as a direct affront to the legal and historical status of the occupied city.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates issued a statement reiterating Egypt's unequivocal rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at imposing an illegal fait accompli in Al-Quds or conferring legitimacy on entities and arrangements that run counter to international law and established international legitimacy.

The statement reaffirmed that East Jerusalem remains an occupied Palestinian territory under international law since 1967, stressing that all measures intended to alter the city's legal, historical, or demographic character are null and void and devoid of any legal effect.

Egypt further reiterated its steadfast support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, while rejecting any unilateral actions that undermine Somalia's national unity or infringe upon its sovereignty.
