Cairo: Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, called for a more responsive global financial system that better addresses the growth and development priorities of emerging economies. Kouchouk also urged a greater role for multilateral development banks in providing low-cost financing to help developing countries manage risks.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Kouchouk was speaking at a meeting of BRICS finance ministers and central bank governors in India. He emphasized that strengthening the resilience and innovation capacity of developing economies would advance inclusive and sustainable development. He also highlighted the need for developing countries to have a stronger voice in shaping a fairer and more inclusive international financial architecture.
Kouchouk further advocated for the integration of digital systems and artificial intelligence into structural reforms to develop human capital, boost productivity, and enhance competitiveness. He called for stronger trade and investment ties among Global South countries to mitigate economic and geopolitical volatility.
