Cairo: Egypt welcomed a decision by the UN General Assembly to renew the mandate of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for another three years, the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday 6/12/2025.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the renewal won the backing of 151 member states, which Egypt said reflects a strong international commitment to the rights and dignity of Palestinian refugees until a just and lasting solution is reached.
In a statement, the ministry said Egypt fully supports UNRWA and its core humanitarian mission, stressing that the agency remains indispensable as the primary provider of basic services to millions of Palestinian refugees across the region.
Egypt added that UNRWA's presence is closely tied to the essence of the refugee question and to the international community's responsibility to help secure a permanent solution in line with relevant UN resolutions.
It called on the international community to build on the momentum of the vote and step-up efforts to ensure sustainable funding for the agency's programs. Stable financing, it said, is essential to safeguarding the rights of Palestinian refugees and advancing prospects for a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
