Egypt and Thailand Aim to Enhance Parliamentary and Economic Cooperation

Bangkok:Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty engaged with Thai Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Nirat Yubakdi and committee members to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and expanding parliamentary and economic cooperation.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place during Abdelatty's visit to Bangkok, where both sides explored ways to boost legislative exchanges, increase high-level parliamentary visits, and share expertise and best practices.

Abdelatty emphasized the importance of maintaining positive momentum in bilateral relations and enhancing trade, investment, and economic cooperation. He highlighted a December 2024 memorandum of understanding that established a joint trade committee and a framework for economic cooperation.

He pointed out that Thailand could act as a gateway for Egyptian products and investments into ASEAN markets, while Egypt could provide Thai companies with access to African and European markets. Abdelatty also welcomed Thailand's increasing involvement with Africa and called for closer cooperation, leveraging Egypt's established role on the continent.

The discussions also included exchanging views on regional and international issues, including developments in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, highlighting the need for continued coordination and consultation.

Yubakdi commended the existing cultural and educational cooperation, particularly the role of Al-Azhar missions, and expressed interest in expanding academic exchanges between Egyptian and Thai universities in key fields of mutual interest.
