Cairo: Egypt's General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) witnessed the signing of a strategic cooperation framework between Spain's CIRCE Energy Research Centre and Egyptian company El Sewedy Electrometer to develop technological solutions for smart city infrastructure in both countries.According to State Information Service Egypt, the agreement aims to utilise advanced tools such as artificial intelligence, smart systems, and big data analytics to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of utility networks-including electricity, water, and sewage-alongside improving services like electric vehicle charging, fire protection, and public lighting.Egypt and Spain will share production, while students from the El Sewedy School of Applied Technology will take part in every stage of the cooperation to prepare for roles in factories in both countries.Emad El Sewedy, chairman of El Sewedy Electrometer, said the agreement reflects the company's belief in 'Investing in technology as a foundation for industrial investment,' noting that recent global disruptions have shown the strategic value of technology production for sustainable growth and resilience.Vice president of the Government of Aragon María del Mar Vaquero Perianez, welcomed the deal, citing her region's leadership in green energy and automotive engineering. She highlighted Aragon's contribution to 80 per cent of Spain's renewable energy capacity and 12 per cent of its total power supply, and expressed keen interest in tapping into Egypt's strong pool of young tech talent.
