Kyoto:Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa met with Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Yoshihiro Seki to discuss enhancing their partnership in higher education and scientific research. This meeting took place during Konsowa's participation in the 23rd Science and Technology in Society Forum in Kyoto.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was part of Konsowa's official visit to Japan. Discussions included the outcomes of the Egyptian-Japanese educational partnership since its inception in 2016 and future cooperation prospects, especially following the extension of this partnership through 2031.
Konsowa congratulated Seki on his new role and expressed Egypt's appreciation for Japan's support in the educational partnership. He highlighted the achievements under the partnership, such as the Tokkatsu Diploma program's expansion and the launch of the first Egyptian-Japanese Institute of Technology, 'EJ-Kosen', scheduled to start in the 2025/2026 academic year.
The Egyptian minister emphasized the importance of the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology as a model of academic collaboration and called for increased scholarships and support for Japanese-language education in Egypt. He also proposed the establishment of branches of Japanese universities in Egypt and an annual ministerial dialogue to enhance communication and cooperation.
The Japanese minister expressed his appreciation for the strong relations between the two countries and affirmed Japan's commitment to continuing collaboration with Egypt in education and scientific research.
