Egypt and Italy Discuss Strengthening AI Cooperation

Rome: Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, met with Italy's Minister of Enterprises, Adolfo Urso, to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The meeting took place in Rome, attended by Egypt's Ambassador to Italy, Bassam Rady, where they assessed the progress in AI applications within both nations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions extended the dialogue initiated during Urso's visit to Egypt in April 2024, which aimed at establishing a solid foundation for collaboration in AI and its related infrastructure. Talaat elaborated on the second edition of Egypt's national AI strategy, emphasizing digital capacity building, AI governance, innovation, research and development, and international cooperation.

Urso, on his part, detailed Italy's initiatives to support AI startups, including a significant project launched during Italy's 2024 G7 presidency. This initiative involves creating an 'AI center for Sustainable Development' aimed at leveraging AI to further development efforts across Africa. Urso expressed his commitment to strengthening bilateral AI cooperation and regional collaboration to fulfill the goals of this initiative. He also conveyed gratitude to the Egyptian Ministry for nominating a representative to the center's executive committee.

The meeting was part of Talaat's visit to Italy at Urso's invitation, during which he engaged with officials from various Italian enterprises and institutions to foster cooperation and draw more investment into Egypt's communications and IT sector.
