Cairo: Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi announced a new initiative focused on artificial intelligence (AI) that aims to drive economic competitiveness and enhance public services. During a ceremony, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Intel, a leader in computing and AI technologies, to increase public awareness and build AI capabilities among citizens. This collaboration will train one million citizens annually over three years on AI concepts, safe technology use, and digital trust as part of Egypt's National AI Strategy (2025-2030).

According to State Information Service Egypt, Intel's general manager for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, Gisselle Ruiz Lanza, emphasized the shared ambition to make AI accessible and practical through the AI for Citizens initiative. The partnership aims to expand AI awareness and enable different societal segments to apply AI technology as needed. The program will establish a pool of qualified trainers and focus on responsible AI use in addition to technical skills.

Hoda Baraka, the minister's adviser for technological skills development, highlighted the importance of responsible AI use and a combined approach to training. Taha Khalifa, Intel's general manager for the Middle East and Africa, underscored the need to expand participation in the AI economy by equipping individuals with necessary skills. The training content will be available on digital platforms, and a phased implementation plan will be prepared for the agreed programs, beginning with AI for Citizens.

The collaboration also includes technical workshops and training on Intel's AI infrastructure, supporting national knowledge-building. Outstanding individuals will have the opportunity to participate in an annual AI hackathon and showcase their innovations at Intel's global AI Impact Festival.
