Cairo:The Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, held a meeting with Ulrich Brunhuber, Head of Operations for the Middle East and North Africa Division at the European Investment Bank (EIB), and his delegation to discuss collaboration opportunities between Egypt and the EIB.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting emphasized strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union, focusing on investing in human capital through the advancement of Egypt's health sector.

During the discussions, Abdel Ghaffar presented several national healthcare projects, including a proposed medical city. The talks involved preliminary feasibility studies, project designs, and the financial requirements for implementation.

The Ministry of Health and Population Spokesman, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, stated that the meeting also explored ways to enhance support for the Universal Health Insurance project and methods to secure the funding necessary to expand healthcare coverage.

Further discussions highlighted the ministry's plans to develop and digitize primary healthcare facilities, equip them with modern medical technologies, and ensure the safe management of medical waste. Other topics included initiatives for mental health support, obesity treatment clinics, and maternal and child health programs.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to create a joint roadmap to prioritize urgent projects over the next 12 to 18 months, aiming to secure necessary financing under the EIB's current financial cycle, which extends through 2027. This cooperation is anticipated to upgrade Egypt's healthcare system and enhance the quality of medical services for citizens.
