Egypt and China Strengthen Ties with New Agreement to Combat Endemic Diseases

Cairo: Egypt and China have renewed their scientific partnership to address endemic diseases, focusing on enhancing research collaborations between the two nations. Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Ayman Ashour emphasized the importance of international research partnerships, highlighting their role in elevating the efficiency of scientific research in Egypt and offering Egyptian researchers opportunities to collaborate and learn from global expertise.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute and Wuhan University have signed a new memorandum of understanding to deepen their scientific and academic cooperation. This agreement is an extension of a partnership that began in December 2019, which initially focused on studying intermediate snails responsible for schistosomiasis and testing molluscicides. The renewed agreement marks a significant advancement in this cooperation, including the establishment of a joint research laboratory at Wuhan University to study the disease and its transmitting snails. It also encompasses the exchange of researchers, joint scientific conferences and seminars, and collaboration in international scientific publishing.

Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Acting Director of the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, expressed his enthusiasm for the renewed partnership, describing it as a model for successful international cooperation in scientific research and addressing health challenges. He noted that such partnerships elevate the status of scientific research in Egypt and allow young researchers to engage with cutting-edge developments at the international level.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz and Dr. Yufeng Yuan, Vice President of Wuhan University. Coordination of the cooperation is led by Dr. Mohamed Ramadan Habib from the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute and Dr. Chenping Zhao from Wuhan University.
