Egypt and China Strengthen Strategic Partnership and Address Regional Concerns Over Phone

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed in a phone call with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi ways to strengthen bilateral ties and the latest regional and international developments.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty praised the strong relations and strategic partnership between Egypt and China. Both ministers expressed appreciation for the progress in Egyptian-Chinese relations in recent years, marked by the exchange of high-level visits. They expressed their aspiration to continue joint efforts to elevate cooperation, reflecting the comprehensive strategic partnership and serving mutual interests, particularly as this year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

Wang expressed China's appreciation for Egypt's role in supporting regional security and stability. He emphasized promoting strategic cooperation with Egypt, building on the current momentum in bilateral relations. Abdelatty highlighted the political and economic cooperation between the countries, focusing on Chinese investments in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the potential for increased Chinese investment in Egypt's industrial sector.

In terms of financial cooperation, Abdelatty appreciated the currency swap agreement between Egypt and China and expressed hope for its expansion. He also mentioned Egypt's issuance of Chinese-denominated bonds and the potential for increased cooperation with the China Development Bank to enhance foreign currency liquidity.

The call also covered regional updates, with both ministers emphasizing coordinated efforts to reduce tensions and de-escalate conflicts. They stressed the importance of diplomacy, dialogue, and urgent action to prevent broader confrontations that threaten regional security. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's condemnation of Iran's actions against Gulf states, calling for their cessation.

The discussion also included Egypt's water security, with Abdelatty highlighting the need for cooperation among Nile Basin countries to achieve mutual benefits. The Chinese foreign minister showed understanding of Egypt's water-related concerns.
