Egypt Advocates for African Mining Alliance to Enhance Mineral Value

Cape Town:Egypt is advocating for the establishment of a robust African mining alliance aimed at maximizing the continent's mineral resources through local processing, technology transfer, and industrial investment. This initiative was announced by Industry Minister Khaled Hashem during his speech at the opening of African Mining Week 2026.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Hashem emphasized the potential for closer cooperation among African nations to foster new industries, skilled employment, and investment opportunities. Egypt's participation in this initiative was further highlighted by the presence of Industry Assistant Minister for Strategic Industries Mohamed Zada.

Minister Hashem pointed out Egypt's proactive steps in enhancing mining collaboration with African countries, such as hosting the Egypt Mining Forum and organizing the El Alamein Africa Forum. He underscored the importance of evaluating Africa's mining success not merely by extraction but also by the development of industries and communities fueled by mineral wealth.

He urged for a coordinated approach involving governments, industry leaders, and investors to boost local manufacturing and ensure a greater share of value from mineral resources remains within the continent. Hashem affirmed Egypt's readiness to offer its industrial expertise, skilled workforce, and strategic partnerships to support these objectives, which could lead to more integrated and competitive African economies.

In a related event, Mohamed Zada participated in a panel discussion titled 'Creating Value Addition for Africa,' which explored strategies to connect mining with manufacturing, enhance regional cooperation, and encourage sustainable industrial development. The panel also featured contributions from Uganda's Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Monica Musenero and Guinea's Deputy Industry Minister, Daouda Dakita.
