Deputy Health Minister Stresses Comprehensive Burn Care Beyond Survival

Cairo:Burn injuries are a significant challenge for healthcare systems, impacting not only patients' physical health but also their functional abilities, mental well-being, family stability, and societal reintegration, stated Deputy Health Minister for Population and Family Development Abla el-Alfi.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Alfi made these comments during the second International Conference on Burn Care, themed "From Survival to a New Life." The event was organized by Ahl Masr Foundation and Hospital for Burn Treatment and attended by notable figures including Egyptian Drug Authority Chairman Ali el-Ghamrawy, a World Health Organization representative, and various experts in burn treatment and related fields.

Alfi emphasized that treating the initial burn injury is just the beginning of a long recovery journey, which includes restoring dignity and reintegrating survivors into society. She highlighted the necessity of a comprehensive and sustainable burn-care system that starts with prevention, awareness, specialized medical care, advanced surgical interventions, and scientific research, incorporating the latest medical advances.

She praised the efforts of Ahl Masr Foundation and Hospital in obtaining human skin for burn treatment, describing it as a significant step toward improving treatment success rates. Alfi also acknowledged the multidisciplinary approach required for effective burn treatment, insisting on coordinated efforts among medical and institutional stakeholders.

The Ministry of Health's commitment to strengthening an integrated approach by developing specialized healthcare services, building medical personnel capacities, supporting evidence-based practices, and expanding partnerships was also underscored by Alfi. She noted the important role of the Ahl Masr Foundation and Hospital in advancing specialized burn care through collaboration with state institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners.

Alfi concluded by reflecting on the journey of Ahl Masr Foundation, recalling a video from 10 years ago in which Chairwoman Heba el-Sweidi sought international support for burn treatment. Today, the hospital stands as a testament to years of hard work and determination, now actively providing specialized services to burn patients.
