Cairo:The third edition of the Cairo Forum, organized by the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES), commenced with participation from representatives and officials of more than 30 countries, alongside major international institutions and organizations. The event, which started on November 1, 2026, aims to address the latest rapid developments in the economic and geopolitical landscape at both regional and international levels.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this year's forum features a distinguished line-up of international thinkers and experts, including Professor Jeffrey Sachs, former Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, and former Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven. These speakers are expected to provide strategic insights into addressing current global challenges.
Over the two-day event, participants will engage in discussions on key issues such as the dwindling resources for Sustainable Development Goals, escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, the future of international trade, and the evolving crisis in Sudan. A special session on artificial intelligence technologies will be conducted in partnership with India's Observer Research Foundation.
The forum aims to solidify Cairo's role as a hub for international dialogue and exchange of ideas on cross-border challenges. It seeks to formulate practical proposals and recommendations to assist policymakers in managing the uncertainties of the global economy and fostering coordination between developing and developed nations.
A focus on emerging technologies and mobilizing financial resources for sustainable development marks a significant shift in the forum's agenda. Collaborations with global research institutions aim to develop balanced frameworks for harnessing the benefits of artificial intelligence while addressing its potential impacts on labor markets and national security, and finding solutions to financing gaps in development plans.
