Defense Minister Engages with Libyan Military Leaders to Bolster Cooperation

Cairo: Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production Ashraf Salem Zaher met on Sunday, June 28, 2026, with Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Saddam Haftar and Chief of the General Staff of the LNA Khaled Haftar during their official visit to Egypt. The visit coincided with the graduation ceremony of new classes from the Military Academy for Postgraduate and Strategic Studies.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was attended by Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Ahmed Khalifa, along with a number of senior military commanders from both countries. Discussions focused on several issues of mutual interest and strategies to enhance military cooperation between the Egyptian and Libyan armed forces.

The Commander-in-Chief expressed pride in the longstanding ties between Egypt and Libya, reaffirming Egypt's commitment to supporting the Libyan people and armed forces. He emphasized the importance of continued coordination and unifying joint efforts to secure the common border, combat illegal migration, and support stability across Libya.

Saddam Haftar and Khaled Haftar conveyed their deep appreciation for Egypt's unwavering support for the Libyan people in maintaining the country's safety, unity, and territorial integrity. They expressed a desire for increased joint cooperation between the armed forces of the two nations in the foreseeable future.
