Cyprus Aphrodite Gas Field Project Nears Finalization with Egyptian Support

Athens:Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi held discussions with Chevron executives to address the final steps required to link Cyprus' Aphrodite natural gas field with Egyptian infrastructure.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place as Badawi concluded his visit to Athens. The discussions focused on completing procedures, agreements, and arrangements necessary for the project. The goal is to pave the way for procuring long-lead items, making a final investment decision, and starting project implementation promptly.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources stated that the meeting reviewed progress by joint teams and examined the project's technical, commercial, and legal procedures. Badawi emphasized the importance of accelerating the remaining steps and urged support and coordination for the teams involved to advance the project to implementation.

The minister highlighted the significance of the Aphrodite project in maximizing the use of Egypt's infrastructure for processing and handling natural gas. It aims to enhance regional energy integration, supporting Egypt's role as a regional hub for gas trading. Utilizing Egyptian infrastructure to transport Eastern Mediterranean gas is seen as adding value to regional resources and fostering further cooperation and investment in the energy sector.
