Cairo: Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Adel Abdel Ghaffar said Egyptian universities are working to develop comprehensive strategies to harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, scientific research, and innovation, strengthening the alignment of the higher education system with global developments and future needs.
According to State Information Service Egypt, in televised remarks on Saturday, September 19, 2026, Abdel Ghaffar stated that the Ministry of Higher Education is placing considerable emphasis on expanding computer science and AI programs across all higher education tracks. He noted that more than 100 faculties and institutes nationwide currently offer academic programs in these fields.
He pointed out that the higher education strategy is not limited to academic study but also extends to practical training and student skills development through training programs conducted in cooperation with a number of companies and international institutions. This includes programs implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Mohammed bin Rashid Foundation, contributing to preparing students for labor-market requirements and the rapidly evolving technology sector.
Abdel Ghaffar explained that Egypt's higher education system will welcome more than four million male and female students at the start of the new academic year across 131 universities representing various higher education tracks, in addition to 185 institutes. He added that universities used the summer vacation to carry out maintenance and upgrade works at facilities, lecture halls, laboratories, and other infrastructure, while adhering to occupational health and safety standards, in preparation for welcoming students and ensuring the regular resumption of classes.
He further noted that directives from Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdel Aziz Konsowa focus on maintaining discipline within universities, while continuing to develop university cities and bringing new buildings into service at a number of public universities, as well as organizing cultural and sports activities and competitions for students. The Ministry's official spokesperson stressed that training will be one of the key priorities during the new academic year, through the optimal utilization of university development centers and the organization of programs aimed at enhancing students' skills and aligning them with labor-market needs.
