Abu Dhabi:Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Hassan Abdalla highlighted the robust development of Egypt's instant payment network, noting that by the end of the second quarter of 2026, the network had approximately 22 million registered customers and facilitated 1.47 billion transactions worth EGP 4.33 trillion.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the governor made these remarks during a series of significant meetings. Abdalla participated in the 50th annual meeting of the Governors of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Agencies held in Abu Dhabi. This event gathered representatives from the World Bank Group, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), policymakers, and financial experts globally.

The CBE Governor also attended the MENA Leaders' Summit on Financial Health, organized by the Central Bank of the UAE in partnership with the World Bank Group, the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Financial Health, and the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF). Additionally, he participated in events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the AMF.

During the meetings, discussions focused on the progress of the Arab region's inclusive instant payments program. With countries in the region, such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, developing systems like InstaPay, SARIE, and Aani, there is a push to advance digital payments and instant payment systems.

Abdalla emphasized that the next phase of the instant payment programs should aim to broaden financial inclusion and the utilization of instant payment services. He also highlighted the need for promoting regional integration and cross-border payments, considering each country's infrastructure needs and maturity.

At a high-level workshop on macroeconomic resilience amid geopolitical disruptions, Abdalla stressed the critical importance of central bank independence, credibility, and the coordination between fiscal and monetary policies, especially in the face of global uncertainties.
