CAPMAS: Egypt-Somalia Trade Hits $127.7m in ’24

Cairo: The trade volume between Egypt and Somalia reached $127.7 million in 2024, up from $58.2 million in 2023, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported on Monday, July 7, 2025.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Egypt's exports to Somalia surged to $122.9 million in 2024 from $55.8 million in 2023, while imports from Somalia rose to $4.8 million from $2.4 million over the same period.

Top Egyptian exports to Somalia included milled products amounting to $60 million, sugar and confectionery at $29 million, tobacco at $6 million, pharmaceutical products at $6 million, and preserved vegetables and fruits at $3 million.

On the import side, live animals were the leading product from Somalia to Egypt, valued at $4 million, followed by gums and plant extracts at $800,000.

Remittances from Egyptians working in Somalia totaled $884,000 in FY 2023/24, compared to $299,000 in FY 2022/23. Meanwhile, Somali remittances in Egypt dropped to $3,000 from $14,000 over the same period.
