Cairo Hosts 9th Arab Intl. Pharmacy Conference

Cairo: The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) Chairman Ali El Ghamrawy participated in the 8th Pharma Forum and the 9th Annual Arab International Pharmacy Conference, which was conducted under the theme 'Intelligent and Integrated One Health Approach' with the backing of the EDA and the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement (UPA).

According to State Information Service Egypt, the forum focused on Egypt's national efforts to localize pharmaceutical manufacturing, attract advanced production technologies, introduce new regulatory standards, and provide incentives for both local and international firms. El Ghamrawy emphasized that localization is a top national priority and highlighted Egypt's achievement as the first African country-and one of only 18 globally-to reach WHO's Level 3 maturity in vaccine and drug regulation.

With more than 170 pharmaceutical factories, 2,370 production lines, and a 91.3 percent self-sufficiency in medicines, Egypt is steadily enhancing its pharmaceutical security. The EDA is actively supporting technology transfer partnerships that have already localized 129 medicines, resulting in savings of $633.7 million in imports. The authority now aims to localize 400 active ingredients valued at $1.57 billion, along with new investment incentives to attract more partners and boost innovation.

El Ghamrawy also emphasized the critical role of researchers in bridging the gap between science and industry, asserting that Egypt has the talent and infrastructure needed to emulate leading pharmaceutical nations like the US, China, and South Korea.
