Arish: Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir announced that the expansion of Arish seaport will play a crucial role in facilitating industrial and agricultural development across Sinai. This initiative is expected to boost exports and enhance access to international markets.

According to State Information Service Egypt, el Wazir's remarks were made during an inspection tour of the development work at Arish Port, the sole Mediterranean seaport in North Sinai. The expansion aims to increase the port's capacity to handle various goods from Sinai, such as cement, sand, salt, and marble, thereby supporting local industrial and agricultural zones while generating employment opportunities in the region.

The first phase of marine construction has already been completed, featuring a 1,250-meter main breakwater, a 250-meter Sinai quay, and a 915-meter Tahya Misr quay. Additionally, a 1,000-meter tourist quay has been finalized. Work on administrative and service infrastructures has reached the halfway mark, and the second phase of the project, focusing on the eastern basin, is 33.6% complete. This phase includes the construction of 1,908 meters of new quays and supplementary breakwaters.

The port is set to include four cement silos with a total capacity of 40,000 tons, aimed at bolstering export capabilities to international markets. El Wazir highlighted that Arish Port is a component of the Arish-Taba logistics corridor, which connects the Mediterranean to Taba Port on the Gulf of Aqaba, traversing industrial regions in central Sinai.

This logistics corridor is one of eight being developed across Egypt to link industrial, agricultural, and mining zones with seaports, dry ports, and logistics centers nationwide. Furthermore, a 12-kilometer railway link is planned to connect Arish Port with the Bir Al-Abd-Arish-Taba railway line, integrating the port into Egypt's broader rail network and supporting the efficient movement of imports and exports.
