Cairo: The 52nd session of the Arab Labor Conference commenced on Sunday, September 13, 2026, organized by the Arab Labor Organization under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. It features participation from representatives of governments, employers, and workers from 21 Arab countries.According to State Information Service Egypt, Jordan is chairing the conference, which runs through September 20, in line with the conference's rules. A total of 530 participants representing the three production parties are in attendance, along with representatives of Arab, regional, and international organizations and federations, as well as several Arab ambassadors and public figures concerned with labor and development issues in the region.The 52nd session arrives amid swift changes in Arab labor markets, representing a key Arab platform for tripartite social dialogue. It offers an opportunity to bridge differences and formulate common approaches to issues related to the future of employment and economic and social development in Arab countries. The agenda includes a report by the Director General of the Arab Labor Office titled "Sustainable Economic Growth: Towards Inclusive and Equitable Social Development in Arab Countries."The report provides an analytical assessment of the relationship between economic growth and social justice and examines ways to translate the gains of growth into tangible development results that improve people's lives and labor markets. It focuses on topics such as boosting productivity and competitiveness, expanding responsible investment, strengthening governance, harnessing technology and digital transformation, and narrowing social and development gaps.There is an emphasis on the importance of strengthening social dialogue and partnerships among governments, employers, and workers, achieving closer alignment between education and skills development and labor-market needs, and supporting the green transition as a development pathway capable of creating new jobs. The need to mobili ze resources and financing in a more equitable and sustainable manner is also addressed, supporting balanced economic and social impact and helping Arab countries confront current challenges while capitalizing on available opportunities.The conference will also review a report on the Arab Labor Organization's activities and achievements in 2025, including programs, training courses, seminars, forums, and conferences held across Arab countries. This is in response to the needs of the three production parties, considering geographical and thematic diversity.Included in the report are several annexes, such as the outcome of the 45th session of the Committee on Trade Union Freedoms held in April 2026, the outcome of the 24th session of the Arab Committee for Women's Labor Affairs held in Kuwait in December 2025, and the Arab Labor Organization's perspectives on implementing the Arab Vision 2045.Additionally, the conference will discuss the draft plan and budget of the Arab Labor Organization for 2027 and 20 28, outlining the organization's priorities and activities for the upcoming period. Under the seventh technical agenda item, delegates will address "Climate Change and Its Impact on the Working Environment," focusing on integrating climate risks into occupational safety and health systems and developing preparedness and response plans for extreme weather events.The eighth technical agenda item will cover "Startups: Promising Opportunities Amid Digital Transformation," reviewing the state of startups in the Arab region, their sectoral and geographical distribution, and the legislative, institutional, and regulatory environment supporting their growth.The session's agenda also involves other constitutional and regulatory items, including consideration of decisions and recommendations of the Arab Labor Organization's Governing Body and follow-up on the implementation of decisions adopted by the previous Arab Labor Conference. The ninth edition of the Employment and Unemployment Report in Arab Countries is ex pected to be launched, offering a comprehensive assessment of employment and unemployment trends and highlighting major changes and challenges affecting labor markets.
