Cairo: At the conclusion of the Egyptian-Filipino program for religious leaders, Ambassador Alaa Youssef emphasized that citizenship and diversity are the cornerstones of the Egyptian state. Ambassador Youssef, Chairman of the Board of the State Information Service (SIS), highlighted Egypt's longstanding experience in peaceful coexistence and peacebuilding as crucial elements of the nation's history and civilizational heritage.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Youssef praised Egypt's dedication, under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's leadership, to fostering the values of full citizenship, equality, and respect for diversity. These principles are seen as fundamental for building a modern state and enhancing social cohesion. His remarks were made during the conclusion of the second Egyptian-Philippine training program for religious leaders, organized by the Ministry of Religious Endowments. The program, titled 'The Egyptian Experience in Peaceful Coexistence and Building an Inclusive Society,' took place from August 29 to September 6 and involved several Filipino religious leaders.
The closing ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Professor Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Religious Endowments; Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity; Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade; and Counselor Hani Hanna, Minister of Parliamentary, Legal and Political Affairs, along with other public figures and religious leaders from both Egypt and the Philippines.
The Ministry of Religious Endowments organized the program to promote religious and civilizational dialogue, share Egypt's experience globally, correct misconceptions, and enhance mutual understanding among religious leaders. This initiative supports values of mutual respect, peace, and stability.
Ambassador Youssef noted the significant roles played by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the Egyptian Church in promoting citizenship and social cohesion. He emphasized Egypt's deep historical and civilizational heritage, which supports a value system affirming the nation's unity and diversity as sources of strength.
Expressing gratitude to the Minister of Religious Endowments, Ambassador Youssef acknowledged efforts to position Egypt as a leader in religious and civilizational dialogue. The goal is to foster a culture of dialogue, moderation, tolerance, and citizenship.
The Egyptian-Philippine program included various meetings and discussions on Egypt's peaceful coexistence experience, complemented by visits to mosques, churches, and sites related to the Holy Family's journey. These activities offered the Philippine delegation firsthand insights into Egypt's religious and cultural diversity and its values of coexistence and mutual respect.
