New York: The United Nations affirms the importance of the Quartet statement on restoring peace and security in Sudan. UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stressed the importance of the recent joint statement issued by the Quartet (the United Arab Emirates, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the United States of America) regarding the restoration of peace and security in Sudan.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Dujarric highlighted the United Nations' recognition of the Quartet initiative's significance. He stated that the UN remains committed to engaging constructively with any initiative aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Speaking at the UN Headquarters, Dujarric emphasized that there is no military solution to the crisis.
Dujarric urged involved parties to take measures to protect civilians. He called for an immediate humanitarian truce and the provision of rapid, safe, and sustainable access to humanitarian aid without repercussions. Additionally, he stressed the need for a permanent ceasefire and a comprehensive political process that leads to a credible transition in Sudan.
