UN Partnership Boosts Women’s Empowerment, Sustainable Development

Cairo: President of Egypt's National Council for Women (NCW) Amal Ammar asserted that the joint meeting of the women's results group represents a model of effective partnership between the Egyptian government and the UN system, based on the shared belief that women's empowerment is not merely a sectoral objective but a fundamental pillar of sustainable development.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the NCW organized the joint meeting of the women's results group, held within the framework of cooperation between the Egyptian government and the UN to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The meeting aimed to review progress on joint women's empowerment initiatives and discuss priorities for the next phase.

Ammar stated that the meeting was convened to review achievements since the previous meeting held last year, assess the impact of joint efforts, identify priorities for the coming phase and strengthen coordination among partners to ensure more sustainable outcomes that positively affect the lives of women and girls in Egypt.

She emphasized that, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Egypt has placed women's empowerment at the forefront of its national priorities, viewing it as an investment in the future of society as a whole. This commitment has been reflected in legislative and institutional reforms, the launch of the national strategy for the empowerment of Egyptian women 2030, the national human rights strategy, and numerous policies and programs that have strengthened women's participation across various areas of development.

Ammar stressed that the NCW continues to work with national and international partners to translate these policies into tangible results that improve the daily lives of Egyptian citizens. The meeting also reviewed progress made under the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2023-2027) in the area of women's and girls' empowerment and discussed the objectives for 2026, reflecting the continued partnership between the Egyptian government and UN agencies in support of women's empowerment and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
