Transport Minister Urges Acceleration of Sinai Railway Project

Al-Arish:Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir emphasized the necessity of speeding up the Sinai Development Train project, focusing on bridges and stations, while maintaining high-quality standards and technical specifications. This initiative aligns with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives for achieving comprehensive and sustainable development in the Sinai region.

According to State Information Service Egypt, El-Wazir's remarks came during a meeting with members of the House of Representatives from North Sinai Governorate. The meeting reviewed progress on the railway line connecting Ferdan, East Port Said, Bir Al-Abd, Al-Arish, and Taba, covering approximately 500 kilometers. The discussion focused particularly on the 83-kilometer section between Bir al-Abd and Al-Arish, which involves constructing earth embankments and seven stations to serve villages and key areas along the route.

The discussions also included plans for a 12-kilometer railway link to Al-Arish Port, facilitating direct cargo transport via the national railway network, and a connection to a local cement factory. The project encompasses essential civil engineering works such as grade-separated crossings, bridges, and tunnels to ensure safe and efficient connectivity.

El-Wazir called for the involvement of national companies and specialized contractors from Sinai in this major project, aiming to create job opportunities for local residents and ensure they benefit from the investments. He highlighted that this railway line is integral to the Al-Arish-Taba international development and logistics corridor, one of eight being developed by the Egyptian government to enhance Egypt's role in global transport networks.

The corridor seeks to connect production areas with seaports, boost transport for passengers and freight, and link communities to the national railway network. The project promises to transform Sinai's transport system, promote investment opportunities, reduce freight costs, and improve the competitiveness of Egyptian exports.

El-Wazir also underscored the urgency of completing an industrial logistics zone near Arish Port, as instructed by President Sisi, which will house 1,000 factories and is expected to significantly boost industrial development in North Sinai.
