Cairo: Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir inspected the progress of the Western Desert Road development project during a tour in Upper Egypt. The visit focused on evaluating the works being undertaken on the section connecting Dayrout and Assiut, part of the broader 1,226-kilometer initiative to upgrade and expand Egypt's road network.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Western Desert Road is set to feature six lanes in each direction, alongside dedicated service roads for freight and heavy transport. This development is a strategic effort to enhance the connectivity and efficiency of transportation routes within the region.

El Wazir also assessed the progress of both completed and ongoing sections stretching from Cairo to Aswan. He emphasized the necessity of adhering to project deadlines and maintaining stringent road safety and quality standards. The Western Desert Road is a crucial component of the larger Cairo-Cape Town corridor, which aims to bolster trade and transportation links across African countries.

In addition to the road inspection, the minister reviewed the Abu Tig axis project in Assiut. This project is designed to facilitate improved transportation between the eastern and western banks of the Nile, thereby supporting various development initiatives in Upper Egypt.
