State Moves to Revive Preference for Local Industrial Products

Cairo: Industry Minister Khaled Hashem chaired the first meeting of the industrial product preference committee, outlining a roadmap to reactivate and develop the system favoring local-made products in government contracts.According to State Information Service Egypt, Hashem stated that the new phase would extend beyond enforcing the 2015 law. The focus will be on creating a more effective, transparent, and measurable framework that supports deeper local manufacturing, higher added value, and stronger industrial competitiveness.The ministry plans to establish an integrated database to link industrial companies, products, and local-content certificates with government procurement systems. This initiative aims to enable faster electronic verification and stronger oversight.Additionally, the minister announced plans to introduce a 'Qeema' (Value) certificate. This certificate will assess industrial firms and link incentives to their performance in increasing local content, developing suppliers, adopting te chnology, and boosting domestic value added.
