Cairo: The State Information Service (SIS) has denied the accuracy of information circulated by certain Arab and international media outlets regarding the targeting of the vessel "TIHAMA" off the coast of Yemen, particularly claims shared across media and social platforms linking the vessel to Egypt.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian Ministry of Transport issued an official statement clarifying that the vessel "TIHAMA" is not registered with Egyptian Chambers of Shipping, and that the address of the company operating the vessel is not located in Alexandria. The statement further noted that the vessel flies the Tanzanian flag, is owned by a Yemeni national, and is currently operated by Blue Sea for Management Marine through its branch in the United Arab Emirates.

The Ministry of Transport confirmed that the vessel "TIHAMA," which was off the Yemeni coast when it was targeted by the Houthi group, had never previously entered any Egyptian port, was not en route to Egypt, and was not carrying any cargo belonging to Egyptian citizens or entities.

The State Information Service (SIS) has urged Egyptian, Arab, and international media-alongside social media users-to ensure accuracy and refer to official sources before publishing or sharing news concerning Egypt.

The SIS reaffirmed that a commitment to accuracy and source verification is a fundamental professional responsibility-particularly regarding issues related to maritime security, safety, and regional developments-to ensure that reliable and accurate information is provided to the public and the media.

The SIS also stressed that statements issued by the Ministry of Transport represent the official source of information regarding vessels, maritime traffic, and Egyptian ports. It underlined the importance of referring to the competent Egyptian authorities to verify any information concerning maritime navigation or alleged connections between Egyptian vessels, ports, and regional events.
