SIS Seminar Explores Media Strategies to Engage Youth and Counter Misinformation

Cairo:The State Information Service (SIS) recently hosted a seminar titled "Youth and Media Messages That Make an Impact," focusing on developing media discourse strategies aimed at youth. The event, organized by the Media Committee of the Supreme Council of Culture and chaired by Dr. Amr El-Leithy, emphasized the need for media institutions to modernize their communication strategies to better engage younger audiences.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the seminar highlighted the significance of engaging directly with young people to foster awareness and equip them to handle the challenges posed by the digital age. Ambassador Alaa Youssef, Chairman of the SIS, underscored the importance of recognizing youth as partners in building public awareness and combating misinformation, particularly through platforms like "Chat Egypt."

Prominent media professionals, academics, and representatives of youth organizations participated in discussions addressing the evolving media landscape. Dr. Amr El-Leithy emphasized the crucial role of credibility in restoring trust among younger generations, who face a barrage of information from various digital sources.

Dr. Walid Rashad from the National Center for Social and Criminological Research and Dr. Hanaa Farouk from Cairo University provided insights into the sociological and technological aspects affecting youth media consumption. Meanwhile, Dr. Randa Toulan of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, discussed generational differences in media interaction.

The seminar proposed three pathways to enhance media discourse transitioning from merely providing information to building knowledge, strengthening media and digital literacy, and fostering sustainable institutional partnerships. These approaches aim to involve young people in content creation, promote critical thinking, and develop content that resonates with their values and interests.
