Ismailia: Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie engaged in discussions with Second Deputy Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives Lertsak Pathanachaiyakul and Thai Ambassador to Cairo Thanawat Sirikul on ways to enhance cooperation, strengthen bilateral relations, and exchange expertise in mutually beneficial areas.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the SCA headquarters in Ismailia. Rabie highlighted the Suez Canal's ongoing role as a crucial link between East and West, serving as a cornerstone for global supply chain stability and sustainability despite regional challenges.

Rabie elaborated on the significant development within the Suez Canal region, emphasizing the authority's efforts to bolster its status as a key source of national income through diversified revenue streams. He pointed out the authority's achievements in localizing marine unit production to fulfill the canal's and Egyptian ports' operational needs, along with exploring export opportunities.

The Suez Canal has introduced new maritime services to accommodate customer needs in both normal and emergency situations, including ship maintenance, maritime rescue, marine medical assistance, pollution control, and waste collection services.

Thai Second Deputy Speaker Pathanachaiyakul expressed appreciation for his inaugural visit to the Suez Canal and showed interest in exploring economic cooperation opportunities. He acknowledged the canal's strategic role in sustaining global supply chains and commended the authority's crisis management and problem-solving efforts. Pathanachaiyakul expressed a desire to strengthen cooperation with SCA and leverage its expertise in dredging and training.

Thai Ambassador Sirikul added that cooperation could also extend to maritime and cultural tourism. At the meeting's conclusion, Rabie confirmed the authority's readiness to initiate practical training cooperation through the Suez Canal Maritime Training and Simulation Academy. Rabie presented the Thai Second Deputy Speaker with the Suez Canal's new shield, while Pathanachaiyakul reciprocated with a commemorative gift.
