Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Engineer Mahmoud Esmat. The meeting emphasized efforts aimed at supporting and developing the national electricity grid.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the spokesman for the Presidency, stated that the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy highlighted the expansion in the production and use of new and renewable energy. This expansion is part of a broader plan to support, develop, and modernize the national grid, implemented in collaboration with relevant ministries and authorities, and increasing partnerships with both local and international private sectors.
President El-Sisi received updates on plans to expand battery storage technology and to establish power stations connected to renewable energy projects. These initiatives aim to leverage renewable energy and ensure the stability of the national electricity grid. The President emphasized the need to accelerate the completion of technical studies and regulations for future projects, including enhancing reliance on local manufacturing and determining the percentage of local components in projects that support the grid's development.
The focus of these efforts is to accommodate new generation capacities, consider the geographical distribution of connection points, and ensure a stable and continuous power supply. This aligns with the state's sustainable development plan. President El-Sisi issued directives to integrate renewable energy into the energy mix, implement quality and economic operation standards, and improve service levels.
Furthermore, the President underscored the importance of coordination with all concerned parties to enhance the national electricity grid's capacity to accommodate the expected increase in electrical loads over the coming years. He also directed the activation of policies to solidify Egypt's role as a regional energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean, maximize returns, ensure sound management, and leverage renewable energy from natural resources.
