Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, delegated Defense Minister Ashraf Salem Zaher to lay a wreath at the Memorial of the Armed Forces Martyrs in Cairo's Nasr City district on the occasion of the Veteran Warrior and Martyr's Day.According to State Information Service Egypt, the Veteran Warrior and Martyr's Day is observed on March 9 each year to honor Lieutenant General Abdel-Moneim Riad, the former Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, who was martyred on March 9, 1969.Zaher was accompanied by Chief of Staff Ahmed Khalifa and commanders of the main branches of the armed forces. Flowers were placed at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as military music played the Martyrs' Salute. The delegation then recited prayers at the grave of former president Anwar Sadat.
